From Architectural Documentation to a Detailed Model
PREFABHOLZ supports timber construction companies, prefabrication plants, engineering offices and design departments in preparing 3D models, dividing structures into prefabricated elements, and producing drawings and material schedules.
The starting point may include:
- architectural drawings;
- plans and sections;
- an architectural massing model;
- a CAD or IFC model;
- an existing 3D model;
- structural solutions and design guidelines;
- wall, floor and roof build-ups;
- production and technology requirements.
We use the structural solutions, layer build-ups and production requirements provided by the client. Any missing information is discussed before the relevant part of the model is developed.
We combine experience in timber construction with CAD automation. The scope and level of detail are adapted to the requirements of the project and the workflow of the production facility.
Rebuilding Existing Models in Another CAD Environment
Based on the files and project information provided by the client, we can rebuild timber structure elements in Cadwork or Tekla® Structures.
Depending on the available source data and technical possibilities, the work may include:
- timber beams, plates and panels;
- element position, orientation and dimensions;
- material information, marks and identifiers;
- element grouping and assembly creation;
- selected cuts and cutting planes;
- geometry of custom profiles.
Where the source data and the functions of the target software allow it, elements are rebuilt as editable model objects that can be further developed in the selected CAD environment.
For this work, we use our own internal tools together with the available functions of the software.
The possible scope of the model reconstruction is determined after reviewing the source files. We identify which elements and properties can be rebuilt, which items require additional work and how the result will be checked.
Not every property or function of the source model has a direct equivalent in another CAD environment.

Models and Documentation for Timber Prefabrication
We prepare detailed timber structure models for production and assembly.
The scope of work may include:
- timber frame and prefabricated structures;
- prefabricated walls, floors and roofs;
- roof extensions, building extensions and additional storeys;
- division of the structure into prefabricated elements;
- workshop and assembly drawings;
- material schedules and element lists;
- preparation of data for CNC machining.
We work on the basis of the documentation, structural solutions and technical requirements provided by the client. Element numbering, drawing content and schedule formats are adapted to the agreed standards of the production facility.
Our modelling and workshop documentation services do not include structural calculations. They do not replace a structural design, building permit documentation or checks required from a qualified structural engineer.
CAD Automation
We develop and use our own scripts and internal tools to support repetitive modelling and data-processing tasks.
Automation may support:
- creation and processing of model elements;
- reconstruction of geometry from source data;
- grouping of elements and creation of assemblies;
- organisation of marks and properties;
- selected cuts and other agreed operations;
- agreed checks of model data and geometry;
- preparation of schedules, reports and data exports.
The automation possibilities depend on the task, the quality of the source data and the functions available in the software.
The purpose is to reduce repetitive manual work and improve the consistency of the prepared data.
Workshop and Assembly Documentation
Based on the 3D model, we prepare drawings and schedules required for the production and assembly of the timber structure.
The documentation may include:
- workshop drawings of individual elements;
- drawings of prefabricated walls, floors and roofs;
- structural plans and sections;
- assembly drawings and diagrams;
- connection details based on the solutions provided by the client;
- production and assembly marks;
- material schedules;
- element lists and prefabricated component schedules.
The drawing layout, element marking system and level of detail are adapted to the agreed standards of the prefabrication plant.
CNC Data Preparation
We prepare models and data for CNC machining of timber elements using agreed machine configurations.
Before starting the work, we establish:
- the machine type and configuration;
- the supported data format;
- the required machining operations;
- the available export settings;
- the procedure for checking the files before production.
The possibility of preparing data for a particular machine is assessed on the basis of the technical information provided by the client.
The agreed scope may also include corrections resulting from a test export and file verification.
How Does the Cooperation Process Work?
01. Source Information
You provide the available documentation, CAD drawings, IFC files, an existing model or a description of the task. You also specify the required result.
02. Scope and Quotation
We review the available information and identify any missing data. We then agree on the scope of work, file formats, schedule and price.
03. Model Development
We create the model from the ground up or rebuild the required elements in the agreed CAD environment. Any matters requiring additional information or a design decision are discussed with the client.
04. Drawings and Schedules
We prepare the agreed workshop and assembly drawings, element marks, material schedules and other required lists.
05. Delivery
We deliver the files in accordance with the agreed scope and identify any limitations or matters requiring further verification.
Where the order includes CNC data, the files are checked according to the procedure agreed before production use.
An Approach Adapted to Your Production Process
We take into account the requirements for dividing structures into prefabricated elements, marking individual components and providing the information needed during production and assembly.
We can develop a model from the ground up or support your team during a selected stage of the project. The scope of documentation and the method of delivering data are agreed individually for each assignment.
Who Do We Work With?
We work with:
- manufacturers of timber houses and timber structures;
- prefabrication plants;
- contractors specialising in roofs, roof extensions and additional storeys;
- engineering and design offices;
- design and CAD/CAM departments;
- companies using CNC machinery.
We undertake individual assignments and support client teams with selected stages of modelling, documentation and production preparation.
Remote Cooperation
We work with companies in the Netherlands, Poland and other European countries. Communication and file exchange methods are adapted to the organisation of each project.
We use agreed tools for online meetings, file transfer and remote cooperation. Work within the client’s digital environment is carried out after the access conditions and rules for the use of data and software have been established.
Do You Need a 3D Model or Workshop Documentation?
Send us a description of the task and the files that can be made available for its completion.
Please indicate whether you require a new model, workshop documentation, CNC data or the reconstruction of an existing model in another CAD environment.
We will review the available information and determine the required input data, scope of work, schedule and quotation.
